Friday, May 27th at 7:37 pm Olivia Anne Baker arrived at St. Mark's hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah! She weighed 7 lbs, 3 oz. and is 19.75 inches long. What a precious gift from God! Both Momma and Olivia are doing very well- we came home from the hospital Sunday, May 29th. Both are getting much needed sleep as I update this blog!
We went into the hospital on Friday at 7:20 am with contractions about 5 minutes apart and at a 5 on a pain scale of 1 to 10. At this point, Jessica was dilated to 4 cm. The nurse told us they might actually tell us to go back home, but we chose to walk the halls and see if there was any change. After an hour of sporting the designer hospital wardrobe and admiring labor and delivery's carpet and wallpaper, she was re-checked and had showed enough progress to be checked in. Whew!
The nurse and our doctor decided to give Jessica a very low dose of pitocin to help things along, and soon after her contractions began becoming more frequent. At around 4:00 pm her contractions started getting super intense, so she decided it was time for the epidural. When the anesthesiologist came into the room, Jessica said "do a lot of women tell you they love you?" Fortunately, he was old enough to be her dad so I had nothing to worry about (no offense, Dave ;)
After the epidural set in, our doctor, Eve Blair, arrived at the hospital for show time. Upon breaking Jessica's water, Jess dilated from 5.5 cm to 7 cm in 15 minutes. About an hour later she was at 9.5 cm. Things were really moving fast! Soon our doctor decided it was time to push, and 20 minutes later (don't hate her ladies), our beautiful baby girl was wrapped up and placed on Jessica's belly!
We had a short hospital stay and are now home with Nana (Vickie) resting and recovering. We want to thank everyone for all of their thoughts, prayers, and love over the last 40 weeks. We wouldn't be where we are without the help of all of our family, friends, and most importantly, God's amazing power, love, and grace.
See below for Olivia's first couple pictures and video! Stay tuned for more on our new baby adventure!
Oh, and because Jessica's pregnancy, labor, and delivery went so smooth, our doctor told Jessica that she was made for having babies! GULP!!!!
